What is a safe deposit box?

A safe deposit box is an individually secured lockbox in a bank, which the client rents for the safe storage of valuables – money, jewelry, securities, documents and other valuable items. The safe deposit boxes are located in a specially equipped and guarded vault.

Access to them is strictly limited and regulated. Only specially authorized employees of the bank and the safe deposit box holder, or his trustee, have access to the vault and to the safe deposit box.

How to open a safe deposit box?
To open a safe deposit box in JSCB Kapitalbank, it is required to:
1. Submit a request for opening a safe deposit box. This can be done online (via the mobile application) or offline (on-site at any Bank branch).
2. Conclude an agreement with the Bank on the rent of safe deposit boxes.
3. Make a security deposit
4. Pay the commission costs for using the safe deposit box. For more details, see the Tariffs.
5. Get the client's key to the safe deposit box.

How much does it cost to open a safe deposit box?
You can find out the tariffs and terms and conditions for opening a safe deposit box in the Tariffs.

For what term may a safe deposit box be opened?
An agreement for the use of a safe deposit box may be concluded for a period of not more than 3 (three) years. A Supplementary Agreement to the Agreement before the expiration of the latter can also be concluded. Thus, the maximum term of the agreement with an extension is 4 (four) years. At the end of this period, a new agreement shall be concluded with the client.

What should I do if I have lost (broken) the key to the safe deposit box?
If the key to the safe deposit box is lost/broken, you must:
1. Apply to the Bank with a application about the loss / damage of the client's key.
2. Pay a penalty for the loss / damage of the key.
3. Temporarily withdraw your valuables from the safe deposit box.
4. Get a new key to a new safe deposit box and put your valuables into the safe deposit box.

What should I do if I have exceeded the payment due date for a safe deposit box?
In case of late payment for a safe deposit box:

  • for less than 30 days – the client shall pay a penalty for late release of the safe deposit box – for each day of use of the safe deposit box in excess of the paid period.
  • for more than 30 days – the penalty shall be automatically deducted from the client's security deposit.
  • for more than 45 days – the procedure for cracking the safe deposit box shall be carried out. In this case, the client shall pay a penalty for late release of the safe deposit box, as well as a penalty for repair (restoration) of the opened safe deposit box.

May I transfer the power of attorney to work with the safe deposit box to another person?
The client may transfer the power of attorney to work with the safe deposit box to another person. In this case, the trustee must provide an Application on the use of the safe deposit box as a trustee according to the approved template – notarized and signed by the client who is the holder of the safe deposit box.

May I terminate the agreement for the use of a safe deposit box early?
A client may terminate the Agreement for the use of a safe deposit box early by submitting a written application to the Bank before the expiration date of the Agreement. In this case, the consequences of termination of the agreement provided for in part four of Article 382 of the Civil Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan will apply to the Agreement. The client shall be also obliged to release the safe deposit box on the day of submitting the application and hand it over in the condition in which he received it – completely release the Safe Deposit Box from the storage items and return the key.
There is no recalculation of the previously paid commission fee for the use of the safe deposit box.

What is forbidden to keep in a safe deposit box?
According to the Rules of the Bank, as well as according to the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, it is prohibited to keep in a safe deposit box the items, documents and other valuables that are prohibited, withdrawn from civil circulation or restricted in civil circulation in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as items, substances, foodstuffs, living organisms and objects of biological origin, flammable, explosive, radioactive, poisonous (toxic) and narcotic substances capable of causing harm to Bank employees, premises, neighboring safe deposit boxes and security systems and property of third parties, as well as weapons, other items and materials, the storage of which is normally prohibited by the current legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is prohibited to keep religious or anti-political literature (including leaflets) in a Safe Deposit Box calling for an unconstitutional change in the existing state system, the seizure of power or the removal from power of legitimately elected or appointed government representatives, or for an unconstitutional violation of the unity of the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan or the existing constitutional system.

What is a security deposit?
A security deposit is a pledge made by a client during the execution of the agreement in order to reduce the risks of non–fulfillment of the terms and conditions of the agreement. The amount of the security deposit is determined in the established Tariffs of the Bank.
The security deposit shall be paid by the client on the day of signing the agreement and receiving the key to the safe deposit box. The Bank does not charge or pay interest on the amount of the security deposit. A security deposit is not a bank deposit or a deposit within the meaning of banking legislation.
